Norm has been perfecting his woodworking skills since he was a boy, when he made wooden toys for his sister. Since then, he has also perfected the craft of teaching and inspiring others to make beautiful creations from wood.
Master carpenter Norm Abram is legendary for his woodworking skills. He is also the host of The New Yankee Workshop, which has guided millions of viewers through the hands-on process of furniture making. Working in a 936-square-foot workshop, Norm completes a typical show in two days. He does all the work himself, using an assistant only for cleanup and finishes. Each episode in the series offers step-by-step instructions for building furniture and other woodworking projects. The series airs on PBS and DIY Network stations.

Summary of Scholarship
Norm believes there is no substitution for hand-made furniture. As such, he wants to encourage budding craftsmen and women to study the art of woodworking and the principles of furniture making. Norm Abram is working with our school and local organizations to offer this carpentry scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship may be used at any college, university, or accredited trade school. In additional to the scholarship, the recipient will receive a $200 gift certificate for The New Yankee Workshop DVDs.
Previous woodworking and furniture making experience is preferred, but not required. The committee will be looking for a strong porfolio of designs and/or self-crafted items. When applying, be sure to explain in detail your interest in, experience with, and inspiration for woodworking and furniture making.
